And what would be the demand these days vs. But the band's staying power has a lot to do with things. Honestly, this show actually felt like I was seeing Grand Funk Railroad with a different rhythm section.Ĭlick to expand.I won't dispute how huge Grand Funk Railroad was during that time. His rhythm section was more than adequate, and he pulled out some of the heavier stuff like "Are You Ready", "Sin's a Good Man's Brother", and "Heartbreaker". Still has damn near the exact same powerful voice (singing all the tunes in the original key), tore it up on the guitar, and ran around the modest stage like a man in his 30s. I saw "Grand Funk Railroad" for free at the old Jai-Ali Fronton/Casino in Miami a few years ago and they were indeed a pretty good cover band with WAAB being the obvious highlight, and not much more.Ĭonversely, I paid $80 for two tickets to see Mark Farner in a rather awful casino in a small farmer's town and was pretty much blown away. Of course, there's clearly too much bad blood, and frankly too little demand, for this dream to ever come true. As a 24-year old that considers Grand Funk to be one of the all-time great rock bands, I would love nothing more than to see those three guys (hell Craig Frost too) blowing out some eardrums on stage and doing justice to that incredible catalog.
